Bodily, Fluid, and Emotional.
My work seeks to create a connection between the physical and the emotional by exploring form, color, and touch. With my hands as my primary tool, I directly link my internal experience to external matter through ceramics and finger painting. In transforming my artmaking process into a somatic experience, I seek to untangle the web of fitful anxiety and self-doubt that has plagued my creative process for years.
Artist's Statement continued
My ceramic sculptures, or critters as I like to call them, embody the abstractions that live within me - parts of my life that take on lives of their own. The process of firing my ceramic critters fossilizes these feelings and makes their lives eternal. My finger paintings aspire to apply the bodily techniques I have learned from my critters to the two dimensional realm. These paintings explore gesture and layering as a means of expressing desire and time.
